What a Mushroom is Actually Doing
in the Body

with Matthew Wood, MS and Robert Rogers, RH (AHG)

Understand what a mushroom is actually doing once it's in the body.

Most of us see medicinal mushrooms as a list: Reishi, turkey tail, lion's mane, cordyceps, chaga. A name, a claim, a capsule.

But what is actually happening once one of them is inside you?

Matthew Wood has been practicing herbalism for over forty years. Robert Rogers, RH (AHG) has spent decades with the fungi themselves and teaches mycology at the University of Alberta's faculty of medicine. Between them, the plant side and the fungal side of the question meet.

This class is about how mushrooms work, told simply.

What This Class Covers

Most people have heard that medicinal mushrooms support the immune system. Far fewer have been told what that actually means, or why the effect builds over weeks rather than days.

In this class, Matthew and Robert answer: what's a fungus is, what's inside it, and what the body does with it.

You will leave with:

Knowing what a mushroom is, and what it isn't
• Understanding what are beta-glucans
Exploring reishi, turkey tail, lion's mane, cordyceps and chaga, one at a time

“Mushrooms are more related to us than plants.”

- Robert Rogers, RH (AHG)

Two ways of seeing the same organism

Matthew reads a mushroom the way he reads a plant: what it is doing, who it suits, and where it fits in a whole person.

Robert starts with the fungus itself. The biology, the compounds, and what the research does and does not show.

Most classes give you one of those. This one puts it all together in one place.

Matthew Wood, MS

Matthew Wood has been studying and practicing herbalism since 1982. He has worked with thousands of people, written ten books including The Earthwise Herbal and The Book of Herbal Wisdom, and co-founded one of the most respected herbal education schools in the country.

His teaching is distinctive because he does not teach herbs as a lookup table. He teaches you to understand what each plant is actually doing: its direction, its character, what it is responding to in the person in front of you.

That is the difference between memorizing and learning. And it is what makes an hour with Matthew unlike most herbal education you have encountered.

Robert Rogers, RH (AHG)

Robert Rogers, RH (AHG) holds a Bachelor's degree in Botany, is a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild, and has authored over 50 books on the medicinal plants of Western Canada.

He has more than 40 years of teaching experience and spent 18 years as a clinical herbalist before retiring from practice. He now consults for growers, industry boards and product formulation, and co-directs the Earth Spirit Medicine Program at Northern Star College.

One class. Two teachers.
A lifetime of field work and 60 years of practice combined.
